Held on July 15 \u2013 The First Summer Experience Event of the Season<\/h2>\n

The 4th edition of \u201cNewcomers\u2019 Night,\u201d which began in September last year, was held on July 15.<\/p>\n

This time, we welcomed 8 first-time participants and 7 returning guests.<\/p>\n

Among them were people who had recently moved to Kusatsu or had been living here for a few years, those spending the hot summer months in Kusatsu as part of a two-base lifestyle, and even a university student visiting to research traditional female innkeepers (okami).<\/p>\n

Once again, it was a wonderfully unique and diverse group.<\/p>\n

It was heartwarming to see new faces joining the community formed through previous Newcomers\u2019 Nights, and to feel the circle of connections growing even wider!<\/p>\n

In the spirit of the event\u2019s theme, \u201cA Summer of Art,\u201d we enjoyed a hands-on experience of tarashikomi art \u2014 creating original hand fans (uchiwa) using our favorite colors of paint.<\/p>\n

The Journey to My Own Shade<\/h2>\n

Each participant selected three paint colors of their choice, mixed them to create their own unique shade, and then prepared a special solution used for the tarashikomi art technique.<\/p>\n

Comments like
\n\u201cWe\u2019re both using blue, but they look completely different!\u201d
\n\u201cHow did you make that color?\u201d
\nand
\n\u201cHmm… what color should I make… let me go take a peek,\u201d
\ncould be heard around the room, as everyone moved about, chatting and sharing ideas.<\/p>\n

Despite it being a relaxed, food-and-drinks kind of evening, everyone was so focused on creating their colors that hardly anyone touched their drinks!<\/p>\n

A Storm of Cheers! Tarashikomi Art Experience<\/h2>\n

The climax of the experience was the tarashikomi moment itself.<\/p>\n

Participants dropped their colorful liquid mixtures onto their fans and gently spread them across the surface.
\nNo one\u2014not even the person creating it\u2014could predict what kind of pattern would emerge. It was a thrilling, suspenseful moment for everyone.<\/p>\n

Some participants even filmed the process, capturing the mesmerizing transformation as the fans came to life with color. The room was filled with excitement and energy!<\/p>\n

We received so many joyful comments, like:
\n\u201cThat was such a fun first-time experience!\u201d
\n\u201cIt was so different from what I expected\u2014in a good way!\u201d
\n\u201cI\u2019m hooked! I want to try it at home now!\u201d<\/p>\n

As organizers, we couldn\u2019t be happier to hear such enthusiastic feedback.<\/p>\n

Living in Kusatsu, Together as One.<\/h2>\n

Towards the end of the event, we unveiled the logo created by the coworking space:<\/p>\n

\u201cYuiyui \u2013 Coming together, living in Kusatsu.\u201d<\/p>\n

This phrase embodies the spirit that locals and newcomers alike\u2014regardless of nationality or background\u2014who love Kusatsu and live here are mutually connected, supporting one another like threads twisted together to build the community of Kusatsu Town. Starting from all of us gathered at Newcomers\u2019 Night, it expresses our hope to establish this as a motto to expand the circle of connections throughout Kusatsu.<\/p>\n

With the spirit of \u201cYuiyui\u201d cherished in our hearts, the coworking space will continue planning many events that foster human connections.<\/p>\n

Thanks to everyone\u2019s care for this gathering and the cooperation of each individual, we were able to bring the event to a joyful close.<\/p>\n
