On February 24, 2026, we hosted an ice-like candle-making workshop at our coworking space!<\/p>\n

We welcomed three returning participants and one newcomer.<\/p>\n

It was a packed 90 minutes \u2014 from crafting candles to a slightly surprising photo session at the end. After lighting their finished candles, there were even moments where everyone simply relaxed and enjoyed the quiet glow.<\/p>\n

Today, we\u2019re sharing a glimpse of this refined, grown-up evening art experience ^^<\/p>\n

It Looks Like Ice\u2026 But It\u2019s Not! A Surprisingly Squishy Material<\/h2>\n

After introductions, we began by shaping the candles. For this workshop, we used transparent gel candles that resemble ice.<\/p>\n

They looked so real that one participant asked, \u201cWait, these don\u2019t melt?\u201d<\/p>\n

First, everyone cut the material freely with scissors.
\nShould it look like real ice? A crystal? Maybe an iceberg?<\/p>\n

Each person became absorbed in the process, searching for their ideal shape.<\/p>\n

Once cutting was done, it was time for the next step: heat shaping.<\/p>\n

We gently melted the rough edges with a flame to create soft, curved surfaces.<\/p>\n

As the candles were warmed, they became even more transparent \u2014 and even more convincingly icy!<\/p>\n

Now for the final step \u2014 the most important and most difficult part: inserting the wick.<\/p>\n

Using a bamboo skewer, we made a hole in the candle and carefully inserted the wax wick.<\/p>\n

Because the wick is soft, it can bend easily if you\u2019re not careful. The staff had struggled during trial runs, so we were a bit nervous \u2014 but everyone handled it beautifully.<\/p>\n

What started as a clear, squishy block transformed into a stylish candle!<\/p>\n

Before You Know It, You\u2019re Hooked on the Art Experience<\/h2>\n

In this workshop, each person made two candles.<\/p>\n

After finishing the first one, ideas began bubbling up \u2014
\n\u201cI want to try this shape next.\u201d
\n\u201cI wonder if I can make it like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Those ideas came to life in the second candle.<\/p>\n

Letting go of everyday life for a moment and simply shaping candles however you like.
\nEven as we chatted warmly together, there were waves of comfortable silence where everyone quietly focused \u2014 a truly luxurious evening.<\/p>\n

Surprise! A Mini Photo Session<\/h2>\n

Once the candles were complete, it was time for a surprise photo session.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease wait a moment while we prepare something\u2026\u201d
\nWhat the staff brought back was\u2014<\/p>\n

A handmade mini snow hut (kamakura)!
\n(We gathered snow from behind the coworking space and built it a few hours earlier.)<\/p>\n

Everyone\u2019s reactions were amazing, and it made us so happy.<\/p>\n

We placed the lit candles inside the snow hut and turned off the lights\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWoooow!!\u201d<\/p>\n

The entire snow hut glowed with a soft orange light, creating a magical lantern.<\/p>\n

Inside the snow, the candles looked even icier \u2014 yet the warm flame flickered gently, something you could gaze at forever.<\/p>\n

After plenty of photos, it was time to wrap up the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had so much fun \u2014 it was moving!\u201d
\n\u201cIt was easy to make something that looked so nice. And the snow hut surprise was wonderful!\u201d
\n\u201cIf you shaped it like a volcano crater, watching the candle melt might be even more fun!\u201d<\/p>\n

We received so many lovely comments, and once again we felt glad we held this event.
\nIf connections in Kusatsu continue to grow from this place and add a little color to everyone\u2019s daily lives, we would be truly honored.<\/p>\n
