On April 21, 2026, we held a sake tasting and original label-making event at Kusatsu Onsen Coworking!<\/p>\n

This event was a special collaboration with Anzai Shoten owner Hiroshi Anzai<\/a>, whose family business has been running for over 100 years.
\nParticipants who love Japanese sake gathered together for a night filled with rich flavors, new discoveries, and plenty of conversation.<\/p>\n

Today, we\u2019d like to share a glimpse into this flavorful and creative evening ^^<\/p>\n

Sharpen Your Senses! Blind Sake Tasting Challenge<\/h2>\n

The first half of the event was dedicated to sake tasting.
\nBut unlike a typical tasting session, all labels were hidden.<\/p>\n

Participants compared five different kinds of sake, trying to describe the flavors, discover their favorites, and put their impressions into words.<\/p>\n

Some were lightly sparkling, some rich and full-bodied, some visibly different in color, and others so smooth they went down effortlessly…<\/p>\n

\u201cIt starts smooth, then suddenly\u2014bam!\u201d
\n\u201cTastes almost like mirin.\u201d
\n\u201cThis one is super fizzy.\u201d
\n\u201cMaybe like banana\u2026 or melon?\u201d
\n\u201cIt tastes like white wine!\u201d
\n\u201cCan I get another glass of this one? lol\u201d<\/p>\n

Finding the right words turned out to be surprisingly difficult.
\nAs Hiro explained the characteristics of each sake, the room filled with colorful descriptions and lively onomatopoeia.<\/p>\n

The Big Reveal \u2014 And the Perfect Score Goes To…<\/h2>\n

After tasting all five varieties, everyone entered serious analysis mode.
\nOnce the labels were revealed, participants tried to match each sake with the one they had tasted earlier.<\/p>\n

In fact, even Hiro himself didn\u2019t know the answers beforehand.<\/p>\n

So\u2026 how did everyone do?<\/p>\n

The answers were:<\/p>\n

A. Gunmaizumi Maikaze
\nB. Oosakazuki \u201cMacho\u201d Omachi
\nC. Sakuemi Arabashiri
\nD. Kusatsu Plus #007
\nE. Anzai Shoten \u00d7 Tsuchida Brewery Kijoshu<\/p>\n

The results:<\/p>\n

* 2 participants matched 3 pairs correctly
\n* 1 participant matched 2 pairs
\n* 3 participants matched 1 pair<\/p>\n

Everyone agreed all the sake was delicious\u2014but getting a perfect score was hard…<\/p>\n

Except Hiro got every single one correct. As expected!<\/p>\n

After deeply experiencing the unique characteristics of each sake, Hiro gave a fascinating introduction to the world of Japanese sake\u2014explaining brewery styles, brewing methods, and the culture behind it all.<\/p>\n

Participants filled the handouts Hiro prepared with notes while enthusiastically asking questions and learning more about sake.<\/p>\n

Gunma is home to many wonderful breweries and passionate makers.
\nThe event left everyone excited to explore sake even more in the future.<\/p>\n

Knowing the stories behind the makers somehow made every sip taste even richer.<\/p>\n

(Everyone also brought snacks to share. As expected from sake lovers, every snack was amazing, and conversations about food became just as lively!)<\/p>\n

Create Your Own One-of-a-Kind Souvenir! Label Making Workshop<\/h2>\n

In the second half of the event, participants created original sake labels.<\/p>\n

Each person selected a bottle and attached a handmade Japanese paper label to create their own unique souvenir sake.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat color should I use?\u201d
\n\u201cWhat shape feels right?\u201d
\n\u201cWhat should I write?\u201d<\/p>\n

Everyone enjoyed the creative process while researching ideas, thinking carefully, and admiring each other\u2019s work.<\/p>\n

Hiro was also fascinated by everyone\u2019s creations, photographing particularly unique ideas along the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love having time to completely immerse myself in making something like this!\u201d
\n\u201cIt\u2019s so interesting how everyone\u2019s labels turned out completely different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hearing comments like these made us incredibly happy.<\/p>\n

Finally, everyone lined up their one-of-a-kind bottles for a commemorative group photo.<\/p>\n

After the label workshop, everyone returned to the world of sake and snacks, and conversations continued long past the scheduled end time.<\/p>\n

People talked about sake, daily life, the future of the town, and dreams for what they want to create.
\nEventually, participants even opened their souvenir bottles and poured drinks for one another, turning the evening into a truly memorable celebration.<\/p>\n

It was a day that reminded us once again of the joy of learning together and sharing experiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cNext time, we should do a wine event too!\u201d<\/p>\n

With everyone in agreement, the night came to a close.<\/p>\n
