[Report] Summer of Kusatsu Onsen Art – Wind Chime Painting Experience –

Held on August 19 – The second hands-on event of this summer

This was our second art experience event of the summer. Inspired by the wind chimes that color the summer scenery of Kusatsu Town, we held a Wind Chime Painting workshop!

This time, we welcomed 3 first-time participants, 11 returning participants, and 3 members from TV and newspaper companies who joined us while covering the event.

Some came saying, “I joined because I really enjoyed the uchiwa art experience last time!”
Others said, “I wanted to make summer memories with my children!”
And some mentioned, “I was introduced to the event and thought it would be a great chance to meet new people!”

With such a variety of expectations and excitement, the event kicked off in a lively and cheerful atmosphere.

What should I paint, and what should I use to paint it with?

Each participant picked a glass wind chime in their favorite color and began painting.

Some carefully researched what to draw, others picked up ideas through conversations, and a few even recreated shop logos with impressive detail. Everyone was deeply focused, painting unique designs in their own way.

Not only paintbrushes, but also bamboo skewers, cotton swabs, and other tools were used as “brushes,” allowing participants to explore different techniques that matched their vision.

The event flowed in a rhythm of pleasant quietness and lively exchanges, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere throughout.

With each unique tone, they become part of the town’s summer scenery.

Once the wind chimes were painted, the final step was designing the strips of paper that hang from them—resulting in a collection of truly unique and personal works of art. The venue soon filled with the refreshing sound of their chimes.

After the event, participants took them home or hung them outside their shops, adding to the summer scenery of Kusatsu Town, where countless wind chimes come together to create a seasonal landscape.

The wind chimes crafted by the coworking staff were promptly hung at the entrance the very next morning, welcoming everyone as they arrived at the coworking space!

Thanks to the cooperation of each and every one of you, we were able to wrap up this event with great joy and success.

We sincerely thank all the participants.

To those visiting Kusatsu Onsen as well as those who live here, we hope you’ll enjoy strolling through the town and discovering your favorite wind chimes along the way. ^^

We’ll continue to hold these events on a regular basis, so please look forward to the next one!

New participants are always more than welcome^^
