About Kusatsu
Elevate Your Creativity at the World's Premier Hot Spring
Nestled at the eastern foothills of Gunma's majestic Mount Shirane lies the renowned
Kusatsu Onsen. Dating back to the ancient Kofun period, this legendary hot spring has
been cherished by famous warlords of the Sengoku era.
Known for its strong acidic properties and potent antibacterial effects, Kusatsu Onsen
is celebrated for its relief from neuralgia, cuts, fatigue, and its skin-enhancing
benefits. It even captivated Dr. Bertz, the father of modern hot spring medicine, from
Germany.
The iconic 'Yubatake' (hot water field) of Kusatsu, encircled by a gourd-shaped
promenade, was designed by the renowned artist Taro Okamoto.
From the town center, 4,000 liters of hot spring water gush forth every minute, creating
an overwhelming presence and distinctive aroma.
At night, the mist and lighting transform it into a magical sight.
As you explore the hot spring town, you'll find not only distinguished inns and public
baths but also hand and foot baths scattered throughout.
With its rich history and culture, Kusatsu Onsen is a true inspiration for creativity—a
world-class hot spring experience.
